Yes the guild bank needs some love, so if you have any time, all mats are highly appreciated Cheers.

The fish are, Highland Guppy, Lavascale Catfish and Fathom Eel.

Anyone have an udpate on how close we are to the 10,000 pool fish achievement? Quite some way the last time I looked but that was a few weeks back.

We are a long way off - 4310 as of tonight.

I was looking on the internet for ideas for a fishing competition to try and help get those numbers up - but not had a lot of luck so far.

If we had 10 fishermen (or even more smile) doing an hours worth of pools we could get some fish for the new feast and put a dent in the 10,000 total - but if we could come up with a competition that would help it make a bit less of a chore.

I'm trying to come up with something but if anyone has read anything it would be good to hear some ideas.

What about instead of fishing for an hour everyone everyday fishes up 20 fish from pools and consider this part of their DAILY routine until the goal is reached.

I'll happily stump up 1,000 shiny gold pieces as prize money if we can come up with a decent idea for a competition and drum up enough interest.

In pure financial terms if we get 10-15 peeps fishing for an hour we will net * far more than 1,000g's worth of fish (as long as we fish in the right places) so it would be money well spent.

* pun intended!

Everyone can spend a week fishing and send me the fish in th mail whoever catches the most in a weeks time gets 1 k gold, fish would need to be from pools and for the fish feast. Easier to send me the fish and keep track rather than filling up the gb and losing some data with more deposits than we can see.

Clanger has put an event into the calendar for me for Sunday night. I've come up with an idea for a competition which I think should run for about an hour - maybe a bit more with the admin.
I asked him to put it in after BH - but we may need to be flexibile depending on timing.

If we get 10-20 people to sign up I reckon we could get about 1000 fish caught.

I think it should be short enough not to be a chore and still fun.

I'm still finalising the detals but it basically involves fishing Twilight, Uldum and TB zones which should get the requisite fish.

The one thing I am concerned about - never having entered any fishing competitions - is the number of available pools. Are there enough pool spawns in a zone to sustain 20 people fishing there?

Nice going amiko, if you check out the fish on wowhead it should give you a guide for the pools or els extreme angling might be helpful, but I'm sure 15 peeps in 3 zones should be fine. I am grouping with you for the water walking buff.

unfortunately i won't be able to attend this as i'll be working, but a few hints.

if you're doing this purely for the guild achievement to get the new fish feast, then the best choice you have is to fish in the frozen sea, outside of the Borean Tundra, there you have the most fishing pools.

now, if you're doing it to gather mats FOR the fishing feast that we don't yet have, then your best choice is Uldum and Tol'Barad , for Fathom Eel pools. But take notice that a great amount of fishing pools in Uldum are phased out.

Now for the Seafood Magnifique Feast you need:

Highland Guppy (2) (Found in Twilight Highlands: Map )
Lavascale Catfish (2) (Found in Uldum mostly and some in Deepholm: Map )
Fathom Eel (2) (Found in Uldum, Tol'Barad: Map )

OK - here's the gen on the fishing competition.

First off - it needs peeps to be honest about what they catch - please start the competition with your bags empty of fish and make sure you have some space.
I will collect the fish at the end of each round and tot up the score to keep peeps informed of where they stand. (I've even knocked up a spreadsheet to do the maths).

All scoring fish will be collected and deposited to the guild bank.

You need to be able to fish Cata zones because the competition will involve fishing pools in Twilight Highland, Uldum and Tol Barad.
Ideally you need a quick way to get back to SW - we all have our HS there don't we?

I hope it shouldn't take much more than 1 hour to complete.

I was intending to keep it short - 3 rounds of ~20mins to allow HS to come off CD (unless you want to make it longer :-) ). After each round you will hearth back to SW and we will have a weigh-in of fish caught. For each round you will fish a different one of the 3 areas - but you can choose which order to do them in. I will be deducting points for late arrivals at the end of each round!
(I realise this isn't the optimum use of time but it's supposed to be fun competition not a grind)

So how do you win?
Well, I have come up with a fiendish scoring method that involves points for fish caught in pools - but each zone will also have a mulitplier fish. e.g. in Uldum the Lavascale catfish will multiply the points you get for Blackbelly Mudfish. The multiplier fish are caught in open water. (IF YOU CATCH 0 MULTIPLIER FISH YOU STILL COUNT YOUR POINTS - SO 0=1 IN MY WORLD!)

TB - 2 Points for each Fathom Eel, 3 points for each ?? (bonus item - to be announced) x Deepsea Sagefish
Uld - 1 Point for each Fathom Eel + 2 Points for each Blackbelly x Lavascale Catfish
TH - 2 Points for each Highland Guppy, 1 Point per Algaefin Uselessfish x Deepsea Sagefish

so for example -
ULD 20 Blackbellies (40) x O Catfish = 40 points
TH 12 Guppies (24) + 4 Algaefin (4) x 4 Sagefish = 112 points
TB 12 Eels (24) + 3 ?? (9) x 3 Sagefish = 99 points .... making your grand total 251 points

Please sign up - its' really just meant as a bit of fun but with some added usefulness for the Guild.
Oh and btw I will be giving out some prizes.

Ami.

EDIT - added points for Fathom Eels in Uldum - I should have checked Crusix's map - I didn't realise there were pools there!

Dell - thanks for the input. Since everyone will need to fish each zone I don't think it'll matter if one zone scores more points than another - overall it should all balance out.

Sounds like a plan but I'll suggest one minor change. With TB being a non flying zone I suggest you reduce the scoring in the flying zones or vice verser!

Thanks all for coming to the fishing comp.
I enjoyed it lol and it sounded like everyone was having fun.

The winning scores were:
Twilight Highlands: Unclealbert - 18xGuppy (36) + 15xAlgaefin (15) x 10xSagefish = 510pts wins 150g
Uldum: Amiko - 34xMudfish (68) x 11xLavascale = 748pts wins 150g
Tol Barad: Lovelace - 18xFathom Eels (36) x 8xSagefish = 288pts wins 150g

Overall:
1st: Amiko 1026 350g
2nd: Erbin 1021 200g
3rd: Bert 914

Sorry i got the score wrong in Tol Barad and after a recount have sent Lovelace her winnings.
Karindah please keep the winnings I gave you by way of an apology for getting it wrong.
I if messed up any more scores I'm sorry it wasn't deliberate. Next time I will concentrate a bit more on the admin and just compete for fun if I have time.

Thanks also to Bert for putting up the winnings. I'll gladly do this for the next competition - especially as I feel guilty for winning (I must have messed up the scoring I'm sure).

Ami.

Oh and incidentally I make it we fished up (at least):

95 Highland Guppy
188 Blackbelly Mudfish
135 Algaefin
108 Deepsea Sagefish
165 Fathom Eels
63 Lavascale Catfish

Amiko,

What a fantastic, creative idea your fishing competition was; superbly executed; and just about the most fun you can have and still keep your clothes on. I am definately in for next week! And please don't feel you have to change anything, it worked fine: it's about the only time that I have enjoyed fishing and not felt it to be a grind.

Now if someone could do the same for archaeology...

Well done mate.

Erbin

I was a lot of fun and thanks for arranging the event and putting so much thought into the competition design Ami. I'm looking forward to Sunday's event.

Fair enough it is FISHING and not everyones' cup of tea but if we can generate enough interest to sustain the event for 3-4 weeks we will put a major dent in the new Feast achievement.
